Ekka OTT release date: When and where to stream Yuva Rajkumar’s sophomore film

Ekka, directed by Rohit Padaki, is Yuva Rajkumar's latest, after his debut Yuva. Released on July 18, the film, according to reports will be on OTT shortly

Yuva Rajkumar’s Ekka, which was meant to give the actor’s fledgling career a fillip, is nearing the end of its theatrical run. The film hit theatres on July 18, to middling reviews, but had a good opening weekend, a momentum that it was not able to sustain thereafter. That Raj B Shetty and JP Thuminad’s Su From So came and took the Karnataka box office by storm only a week later did not help Ekka’s cause either. According to reports, the film will be on OTT shortly.

Ekka was rumoured to be headed to Amazon Prime Video, and the initial buzz was that it would be there in time for the Independence Day long weekend. August 15 was when Ekka was expected to drop on the platform, but there was no confirmation from the platform or the makers in this regard and it didn't come. Instead, the team released the full video of the viral Bangle Bangari song. The film was expected to be on OTT for the Ganesha festivities. But it didn't. Then it was thought that the Onam/Eid-E-Milad long weekend could be the due date, but it wasn't that either. It was then said that Prime didn't have the rights and that it was Z5 that was holding on to the digital release. That wasn't the case either. Sun Network picked up the rights, with the film headed to Sun NXT (via OTTplay Premium also)

Directed by Rohit Padaki and produced by PRK Productions, KRG Studios and Jayanna Films, Ekka also starred Puneet Rudranag, Dr Suri, Adityaa, Atul Kulkarni, Sanjana Anand, Shruthi Krishna, Arun Sagar, Rahul Dev Shetty, Poorna Mysore, Sampadaa Hulivana, among others. The film had music by Charanraj, which was a major highlight.

What's Ekka all about?

Yuva was Muthu in the film, a simpleton who loved the peaceful life back home and vowed never to leave his mother Rathna (Shruthi) behind. But when circumstances force him to head to Bengaluru, his life is turned upside down shortly after. When a passenger he was ferrying in his cab is shot in broad daylight, Muthu rushes him to hospital, which saves his life. It turns out that Muthu had foiled an attempt on the life of a powerful gangster called Mastaan (Atul Kulkarni) and is then drawn into the world of the latter.

Soon enough, the hitherto innocent Muthu awakens the beast within him. What becomes of him thereafter is at the crux of the tale. The film was reportedly made at a budget of Rs 20 crore and the team had celebrated its success after only the first weekend. However, trade trackers estimate that the film is far from breakeven, having made only Rs 11 crore gross so far and unlikely to meet that target.
