The upcoming Malayalam film Eko, starring young actor Sandeep Pradeep is yet another offering from the makers of the 2024 hit movie Kishkindha Kaandam, which starred Asif Ali in the lead. The Eko teaser is out, and it promises another brooding mystery in the woods, with animals yet again being a crucial part of the narrative.

Kishkindha Kaandam director Dinjith Ayyathan and writer Bahul Ramesh have joined hands for Eko. The Eko teaser begins with a woman in a foreign land, listening to news about rising trouble in Malaya. The teaser then cuts to show captivating visuals of the south Asian country, followed by a voiceover in Malayalam that recounts past instances when people frequently sailed to Singapore and Malaysia. We see glimpses of Sandeep Pradeep and senior actor Vineeth in scenic Kerala locales and a close-up shot of a pistol (a crucial element in Kishkindha Kaandam). They discuss about Malaysian breed dogs in Kattukunnu hills. Another person also talks about supplying dogs to military and police in India. These scenes are intercut with visuals of dogs and police as Sandeep’s character looks to be desperately in search of something or someone.

Senior actor Ashokan warns Sandeep’s character to be wary of Kattukunnu, while Narain makes an appearance as an investigator or cop who recounts instances of several deaths due to various causes. What is the mystery in Kattukunnu woods, its links to dogs and how is Sandeep Pradeep connected to all this would be explored in Eko.

Apart from the brooding mystery, the teaser also impreses with its visuals as it beautifully depicts, the woods, river and hilly areas. In addition to contributing the story, screenplay, and Dialogues, Bahul Ramesh has also doubled up as the DOP.

This also marks writer Bahul Ramesh’s third tryst with films where animals are crucial to the narrative. His first movie Kishkindha Kaandam was set in forest fringes surrounded by monkeys, while his next series Kerala Crime Files Season 2 had a link to dogs.
