Director Jis Joy and Asif Ali have now become a team of sorts. The filmmaker, who has worked with the actor in Bicycle Thieves, Sunday Holiday, Vijay Superum Pournamiyum and Innale Vare, will once again join hands with Asif for a movie later this year.

Asif, in an exclusive chat with OTTplay, confirmed that the project is on and also revealed another cast member who could be playing a lead role in the movie. “I also have a project with Jis Joy. We are currently in the final discussions of the script. It’s a multi-starrer and Biju Menon is one of the other actors we are planning to rope in,” he says.

The actor, who is currently shooting for Shaji Kailas’ Kaapa in Thiruvananthapuram, recently wrapped up the shoot of A Ranjith Cinema after several hurdles. The movie had been long delayed and faced several setbacks with the actor having to quarantine after his trip to Moscow last year and then his ligament injury a few months ago.

A Ranjith Cinema is directed by debutant Nishanth Sattu and also has Renji Panicker and Namitha Pramod in pivotal roles. “I play an assistant director in the film, which is about his struggle to do his first film and hence the title of the movie. But it’s told in the mood of a psycho-thriller,” he explains.

The actor has also completed shooting for Sethu’s Maheshum Marutiyum, which also has Mamta Mohandas, and also a segment in an upcoming Netflix anthology, which is based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s stories. On the latter, Asif says, “MT sir’s daughter Ashwathy is directing it and it’s based on his story, Vilpana. Madhoo and I play the lead roles in it.” The Mahaveeryar actor’s next release will be Sibi Malayil’s political thriller Kotthu, which also has Roshan Mathew, Nikhila Vimal and Sudev Nair in pivotal roles.
