For those awaiting the OTT release of director Sidharth Bharathan’s erotic thriller Chathuram, the filmmaker has offered an exclusive update regarding the Swasika-starrer, which hit theatres in November.

The movie revolves around a woman named Selena, who has to endure her chauvinist husband, Eldho, till an accident renders him bedridden. Balathazar, a home nurse, is then hired to take care of him, but this also leads to a ‘forbidden’ relationship between Selena and the former – that will have huge ramifications for the duo once Eldho passes away.

Incidentally, Sidharth says that a lot of people had reached out to him, asking when the movie will hit a streaming platform. “A lot of people have asked me that and I do get sad that they are waiting for the OTT release. We had a five-week run in theatres, which is no mean feat. We never expected that. The feedback was good,” he tells OTTPlay.

The director explains that it’s a film that they did after they had completed Djinn ahead of the pandemic and “had to come out of that endless depression that followed due to the pandemic and subsequent delays”. “That’s when my neighbour said we would do a movie that didn’t adhere to too many restrictions,” Sidharth says.

On the movie’s OTT release, the director says, “January 2023 is what I hear. I have not been apprised of the date or the platform yet, because I have been busy with Djinn for the past few weeks.”

The director is currently all set for the theatrical release of Soubin’s Djinn. “Djinn is more colourful than Chathuram, and has an emotional core to it as well. I believe Djinn will be my best film,” he says. Djinn, which also has Santhy Balachandran, Sharafudheen and Shine Tom Chacko, is set to hit theatres on December 30.
