Debojyoti Mishra – one of the leading music directors in India – is in a fix. The musician, who often shared his paintings on social media, has been called out after he shared a painting on Facebook and reportedly claimed it to be his. On the other hand, a Facebook user pointed out that his claim was reportedly false and the painting is, in fact, by Italian painter, Giovanni Boldini, and it is called, A Path Through Trees in the Bois de Boulogne.

In fact, within a few hours, some other Facebook users shared screenshots of Debojyoti’s other allegedly plagiarised paintings. OTTplay reached out to the musician. He said, “I just have one thing to say: I am sorry.” Elaborating on this, he said, “My paintings and the paintings that I admire are all kept together in the same folder. The person who handles my social media messed it up. I asked them to share my painting of trees and they shared another one by mistake. However, it was posted from my social media handle and I take complete responsibility for it.” He further added, “So far, whatever I have done – the books I penned and the composition I made – I attributed every single collaboration. I cannot even imagine that I would take credit for someone else’s artistic creation.”

Debojyoti removed the painting and made an apology post. “Thanks to the power of Social Media!! Today morning I got a call when a post from my social media handles went viral! I realised that a few famous paintings were being posted regularly from my channels with my name! To clarify all the good souls around me, these photographs of the famous paintings were there along with my own paintings in a folder from where my intern by mistake kept sharing in my name. Thank you all for making me aware of this mis-happening and we are taking immediate action on things now! The photograph that was shared last night was done based on an instruction that "please post the green painting" on which the wrong green painting post has been done. Sharing it with this post for clarification. Rest I would love to leave it to your good judgement!”

This opened a Pandora’s Box as the musician’s post invited trolls.
