Actor-director Vineeth Sreenivasan’s latest directorial Hridayam, which hit theatres earlier this year after several delays during the pandemic, was Malayalam cinema’s first superhit of 2022. Vineeth’s younger brother Dhyan, who had also worked with Hridayam’s producer Visakh Subramaniam for his debut directorial Love Action Drama, spoke exclusively to OTTplay about the factors that he thought worked best in the film.

When asked about his feedback on Hridayam, Dhyan says, “It’s easily Pranav’s best film so far. We can’t think of any other actor in his age bracket to play such a role. He makes you feel that he belongs on campus.”

The actor also explains that was a major contributing factor to the success of the film. “If you look at it, the movie appealed the most to the audience in the age group between 18 and 25 years of age. They were the reason that made the film a superhit,” he says. “The movie was also made keeping today’s yongsters as its target audience and so, it worked beautifully.”

Dhyan also says that Vineeth was able to balance the film’s story to appeal to a broader section of the audience. Hridayam revolved around the two chapters in the life of Pranav’s character Arun – his college days and his life as a husband and a father.

“There were many who told me that they liked the first half better than the second. Similarly, there were those who said vice versa. That’s the advantage of making a coming-of-age drama because you have elements that all kinds of audience can relate to,” says the actor.

Dhyan, meanwhile, is currently awaiting the release of the thriller titled Udal, which also has Indrans and Durga Krishna in the lead. The movie, helmed by Ratheesh Reghunandan, will hit theatres on May 20.
