The shoot of Mammootty’s much-anticipated movie, CBI 5, began in full swing last week, after being halted for two weeks due to the megastar testing positive for COVID-19. While Mammootty is set to resume his portions as CBI Sethurama Iyer from February 8, we recently learnt about the roles that the new additions in the franchise would be playing.

Talking to OTTplay, the film’s scriptwriter SN Swamy revealed the characters that Maheshinte Prathikaaram and Joji’s director Dileesh Pothan and Asha Sharath would be essaying in the K Madhu directorial, which is currently being filmed in Kochi.

Initially Dileesh had declined to be part of the movie after having to recuperate from an injury. However, with the shoot being delayed, the actor has joined the cast. “He plays Kerala chief minister in the movie while Asha Sharath will be seen as a lawyer. Both of them shoot their portions during the current schedule,” says Swamy.

Apart from the two actors, Renji Panicker, Ramesh Pisharody and Saikumar are also part of the movie, which will see both Mukesh and Jagathy Sreekumar reprising their roles as Chacko and Vikram, respectively.

The movie will mark the first time that Jagathy will be seen in a movie after being paralysed due to a car accident in 2012. “His portions will be shot in this schedule in Kochi. The character has been designed keeping in mind his condition, but we will also be making certain adjustments,” says the scriptwriter. Apart from Kochi, the big budget film, which will have Sethurama Iyer investigating a case referred to as Basket Killings, will also be shot in Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, Mammootty’s next release will be Puzhu, which is rumoured to release directly on an OTT platform. The makers are reportedly in talks with Sony LIV and Netflix for the same. The megastar has also wrapped up shooting for Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam and Amal Neerad's Bheeshmaparvam.
