Golden Star Ganesh’s next is his fourth collaboration with his friend and filmmaker Preetham Gubbi. Called Baana Daariyalli, the film, in which Ganesh plays a cricketer, had earlier been announced as a Christmas 2022 release. With only one week to go for this date and no promotions yet, we called Preetham to find out the latest.

“Baana Daariyalli has been pushed ahead to the first quarter of 2023. We will announce the release date on January 1, after which the promotions begin. Kicking off the publicity trail is the launch of the first song on January 4, which we are looking at doing at a cricket stadium, in keeping with Ganesh’s character. There will also be cricket match between the team and media, details of which will be announced shortly,” says the filmmaker.

Preetham, who has been tight-lipped about the subject of Baana Daariyalli, has only revealed that it is “not a love story, but a story about love”. Ganesh is paired with Rukmini Vasanth and Reeshma Nanaiah in the film. Rukmini plays Leela, a surfer and water sports enthusiast, while Reeshma is wildlife photographer Kadambari. “More than an hour of the film is set in Kenya,” adds Preetham.

The film is based on a story by cinematographer Preetha Jayaraman, for which Preetham has written the screenplay. It gets its title from the iconic song of the same name that was sung by the late Puneeth Rajkumar in Bhagyavantha. The 1981 film starred matinee idol, Dr Rajkumar in the lead and featured Puneeth as a child artist (credited as Master Lohith), who also sang the song. Baana Daariyalli is Preetham’s fourth film with Ganesh after Maleyalli Jotheyalli, 99 and Dil Rangeela. The film was initially announced as a Harikrishna musical, but later, Arjun Janya came onboard, presumably because the former is busy with the release of his own directorial, Kranti.
