Exclusive! Mammootty, Parvathy Thiruvothu didn’t even need an icebreaker to start work on Puzhu: Ratheena

The debutant filmmaker talks about working with the two Malayalam stars for her directorial venture Puzhu, which is streaming on Sony LIV

After the whole Kasaba controversy, where actress Parvathy Thiruvothu called out the makers of the Mammootty-starrer for its misogyny, the Take Off star had to bear the brunt of attack from the megastar’s fans on social media. That’s also one reason the Malayalam audience were curious about how the duo would work together for their first collaboration together – Puzhu.

The movie’s director Ratheena PT, who had earlier worked as an executive producer in Parvathy’s Uyare, tells us that the two were professionals and didn’t show any friction that many though existed.

In an exclusive interview with OTTplay, Ratheena says, “When we discussed about the casting of the film, we never even thought about this (Kasaba) issue. Once the project was on and the script work was going on, we thought Parvathy would be a good fit. All of us, including (scriptwriters) Harshad, Suhas and Sharfu, were in Kozhikode and Parvathy was also there. She knew all of us and so when we told her the story, she liked it a lot. The story is what attracted all the artistes, including me. I messaged Mammukka that Parvathy liked the script and that was it, we were on.”

Ask her about the experience of working with the duo on the set of Puzhu and she says, “On any film set, as professionals we do our job when the shoot is on. During leisure time, Mammukka and Parvathy were behaving just like how we all do when we are free. They have their own space. Mammukka is a knowledgeable person and there are so many things we can discuss with him. All of us partake in those discussions and Parvathy was also part of that. I never felt there was any sort of friction between the two on the sets of Puzhu. There was no need even for an ice-breaker between them.”
