Kerala State Award-winning filmmaker Senna Hedge’s next after the delightful Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam will have him team up with Sharafudheen and Vincy Aloshious for an entertainer that also involves a road trip.

Talking to OTTplay about the movie titled 1744 WA, the filmmaker tells us, “It’s more of a crime-comedy drama. There are three parallel threads that interconnect at various stages. It’s not a serious film. I think my last two movies (Katheyondu Shuruvagide and Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam) have been too realistic and I just wanted to have some fun with this.”

Ask him about the significance of the White Alto in the title 1744 WA and he says, “It’s also got a bit of a road trip and the car plays an important part in it.”

Apart from Sharafudheen and Vincy, the movie also has Rajesh Madhavan and Navas Vallikunnu. “Ranji Kankol, who played Girish in Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam, and Sajin Cherukayil will be seen in interesting roles too,” he says.

Much like Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam, the upcoming movie’s screenplay is by Senna and its cinematographer Sreeraj Raveendran. “I scripted the film and got Sreeraj onboard. That’s how we are working these days; it helps develop the story and the shooting because he is in sync with what is happening,” says the filmmaker.

The backdrop of his earlier movies too has had a huge role in how the story is told. In his previous interviews, Senna had mentioned that if given a chance, he would set all his movies in Kasargode. Bring that up and he says, “It doesn’t mean that I want to make every film based in Kasargode, but if I can find suitable locations for a certain genre, I can place them there. We are shooting this film in Kanhangad and within Kasargode district, but the story is certainly not rooted here. We are not restricting the language to a certain place either.”

On when the movie will go on floors, the director says, “We are scheduled to go on floors this month, but we might push it a bit owing to COVID-19 and Omicron threat. We are waiting to check if there’s any guidelines from the government, before we start.”

Meanwhile, Senna had also announced a comedy drama titled Padmini, which is scripted by Kunjiramayanam fame Deepu Pradeep and has Kunchacko Boban and Aparna Balamurali in the lead. Further on the film’s status, he says, “Chackochan has to finish a couple of movies. We will begin Padmini after that, in the second half of the year.”
