The standout aspect of Thallumaala’s trailer was how much the makers had integrated social media and its influence into its story. The first song of the movie, Kannil Pettole, showed that both its protagonists – Manavalam Waseem and Beepathu – were social media influencers in some way or the other.

In an exclusive chat with its lead actor Tovino Thomas, we asked him if social media is a huge part of the film, which is directed by Love and Unda fame Khalid Rahman and scripted by Muhsin Parari and Ashraf Hamza.

“Yes, but the fun part about all of that is that Muhsin first narrated this story to me in 2017,” says Tovino. “Even then social media was a huge factor in the script. Right now, as the film is about the release, is when social media wields the kind of influence it does in the script. Especially since the pandemic, its influence has skyrocketed. So, I asked him if he is a seer.  This is the right time for the movie to release when the social media influence is at an all-time high.”

Apart from Tovino, the movie has Kalyani Priyadarshan playing a vlogger and Shine Tom Chacko essaying the role of a cop. The big-budget entertainer, which is produced by Ashiq Usman, is also the first all-out entertainer helmed by Khalid.

In an exclusive interview with us, Tovino said though the movie is a proper commercial entertainer, the makers as well as the writers never compromised on its quality. The film will also stand apart in terms of its technical aspects, said the actor.

The Vaashi and Dear Brother star also said that it was the movie that pushed him to the maximum, with it having several stunt sequences as well as dance. Thallumaala, which also has Lukman Avaran in pivotal roles, is set to hit theatres on August 12.
