Maareesan is an upcoming Tamil movie, set to release in theatres on July 25, 2025. Actors Fahadh Faasil stars as conman Daya who joins Alzheimer's patient Velayudham on a trip to from Nagercoil to Tiruvannamalai. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Fahadh Faasil clarifies why the film cannot be made in Malayalam. Maareesan is also a road movie, which reportedly stretches across three or four nights.
“Maareesan only happened in Tamil because it was more practical to do it there. We couldn't find the cast and the terrain is very important. In Malayalam, it was supposed to be Trivandraum to Palakkad, and that we will reach in 6-7hours,” remarked Fahadh Faasil, who also has acted in several noted Tamil movies such as Super Deluxe.
Maareesan also reunites Fahadh Faasil and Vadivelu, who earlier starred together in Maamannan, which was released in 2023. The political drama film was also lauded as it showcased Vadivelu, a noted comedian, in a serious avatar, and the senior actor pulled it off convincingly. Actor-politician Udhayanidhi Stalin also appears in a key role in the film, which is helmed by the acclaimed filmmaker Mari Selvaraj.
After Maareesan, Fahadh Faasil’s upcoming release is the Malayalam film Odum Kuthira Chadum Kuthira, which hits theatres on August 29, 2025. The film, which also stars actress Kalyani Priyadarshan in a lead role, is an Onam release, clashing with superstar Mohanlal’s Hridayapoorvam, which is directed by Sathyan Anthikad.
