Firefly release date: Initially planned as a Deepavali 2024 release, Firefly was pushed ahead to accommodate star vehicles like Bhairathi Ranagal, UI and Max

Niveditha Shivarajkumar, the younger daughter of Century Star Shivarajkumar, has been dabbling with content creation for a while. She first co-produced a few Kannada web series, like Honeymoon, By Mistake and Hate U Romeo, after which she decided to expand her horizons with feature films. Her first project is Firefly, a film directed by Vamshi Krishna, who also plays the lead. The film has been ready for a while and they had even announced a release date, hoping to be the Deepavali offering from Kannada cinema.

However, given the uncertainty over the release dates of big-ticket films like Bhairathi Ranagal, Martin, UI and Max got Niveditha to reconsider the release plans of Firefly. First up, of course, she prioritised her father’s film Bhairathi Ranagal, following which she then had to take the lead and support him during his battle with bladder cancer.
Now that Shivarajkumar is cancer-free and back in action, Niveditha is ready to release her film. According to sources, Firefly will be in theatres on April 24, 2025, on the occasion of her grandfather, the late matinee idol Dr Rajkumar’s birth anniversary. The official announcement of the release date is on March 15.
The team had earlier revealed a teaser, giving audiences a sneak peek into the life of the protagonist, Vicky, an award-winning Maths teacher, who is smart, but dealing with loneliness, despite having a lot of people around him. The film also stars Rachana Inder, Sihi Kahi Chandru, Sheetal Shetty, and Chitkala Biradar, among others, and deals with Vicky’s attempts to battle this loneliness.
Incidentally, Shivarajkumar has a cameo in Firefly, which was revealed in the theatrical teaser that was attached with Bhairathi Ranagal. The Hattrick Hero plays a pizza delivery person for a brand called King Pizza. This will be Shivarajkumar’s first onscreen appearance since Bhairathi Ranagal . He will next be seen in composer Arjun Janya’s directorial debut 45, which has been fixed for August 15. He’s also got a pivotal role in A for Anand, the next production venture of Geetha Shivarajkumar.
