Gandhada Gudi on OTT: Late Puneeth Rajkumar’s dream project to start streaming on THIS date?
The docu-drama is the late Power Star's last onscreen project

On October 28, Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar, the widow of the late Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar, and filmmaker Amoghavarsha, presented what was the actor’s dream project – Gandhada Gudi – to audiences. The one-and-a-half hour docu feature was released on the occasion of Puneeth’s first death anniversary, a gift to his fans that will be remembered for ages. Even though it is not a commercial film, Gandhada Gudi has been warmly received by audiences, specifically because it gives them an intimate glimpse at Puneeth, beyond the stardom, including his quirks, fears, etc.

According to those close to the project, Gandhada Gudi had been conceived as an OTT venture, given that the team was not aware of how receptive audiences would be to the genre. Plans changed after the Power Star’s demise, as the team thought that bringing it to the big screen would not only be a perfect tribute to Puneeth, but also a special treat for his fans. The digital rights of Gandhada Gudi had been sold to Amazon Prime Video, considering that Puneeth’s banner PRK Productions has a good working relationship with the streaming giant.

Since its theatrical release, Gandhada Gudi has been doing well at the box office, with audiences describing it as an emotional ride. The film, which is believed to have grossed close to Rs 15 crore so far, is expected to breach the Rs 20 crore mark by the end of the week, according to conservative estimates. Given that it is not a feature film, Gandhada Gudi is expected to wind up its theatrical run and head to OTT within a month. Reports suggest that Amazon Prime Video will have it on its platform by November 24, although this has not been confirmed by the streamer or PRK Productions. Gandhada Gudi will drop in Kannada, Hindi and English versions. The original Kannada version will have Puneeth’s voice, shot in sync sound. What remains to be seen now is whether the streaming platform will continue the streak of bringing hot and trending titles on rental basis only for Gandhada Gudi also.
