Actress Girija Shettar, who shot to overnight fame with her lead role in the Mani Ratnam cult-classic Geethanjali, is all set to make a comeback, we hear. According to the latest reports, Girija Shettar will play a key role in the upcoming Rakshit Shetty production Ibbani Tabbida Ileyali a breezy romantic drama directed by debutant Chandrajith Beliyappa.

Although neither Paramvah Studios nor Chandrajith has confirmed the same with a formal note, which means that Girija's exact involvement in the film is unclear, the same reports add that she is expected to join the sets soon. The makers, however, have revealed that the production of Ibbani Tabbida Ileyali is in full swing through a behind-the-scenes video titled 'The Bloom of Ibbani Tabbida Ileyali'. Panchantantra actor Vihan stars as the male lead with TV actress Ankita Amar playing the female lead.

"There's a scent of summer, warmth of winter and the melody of monsoon!" write the makers while describing the film, adding that the narrative of Ibbani Tabbida Ileyali spans a decade with the days of college life, aspirations and adulthood featuring in it.

As far as Girija Shettar is concerned, the '90s actress, despite making a significant impact within a short window of time, chose to step away from the limelight almost permanently following a few starring roles in the same era. She would begin her career as the vivacious Geethanjali in Mani Ratnam's 1989 film of the same name before making her Malayalam debut in 1992 opposite Mohanlal in Vandanam. Reportedly, she even landed a lead role in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (alongside Aamir Khan) but had to be replaced midway by Ayesha Jhulka due to other work obligations. She was last seen playing herself in the Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D'Souza starrer Tujhe Meri Kasam which released two decades ago.

A quick Wikipedia search reveals that Girija Shettar took up poetry and journalism after her acting stint and became a published author in 2011.
