The Kannada-Telugu bilingual movie Junior is a special film for Genelia Deshmukh. For starters, it is her first Kannada film since 2008’s Satya in Love and brings her back to Telugu cinema after 13 years. But more importantly, the return to south cinema is happening with a role that she’s never before done and presents her in a totally new light.

Genelia's only Kannada film so far is Satya in Love. Watch it with OTTplay Premium

While Genelia is not at liberty to discuss details of her role, going by the trailer, she’s playing a powerful business honcho, who also has some history with leading man Kireeti Reddy and his family. The film’s main narrative follows the father-son dynamic between Kireeti and V Ravichandran, but Genelia and the other supporting actors bring this tale together, with varying degrees of contribution.

Genelia: Junior's given me a new lease of life

“Director Radhakrishna (Reddy) sir saw me in a very different role and not the bubbly ones I used to do earlier, which I am very happy about, because otherwise you get typecast into a certain kind of character. If a director or a production house sees you different, there’s nothing better for an actor. This was a very big opportunity, especially given that I am coming back to south films after 13 years. I have literally been given a new lease of life in the film industry with this role,” she told Tv9 Kannada.

Genelia adds that Junior is a film that is very special to her because it presents her in a new avatar and because it was made with a lot of love, passion and effort from each member of the cast and crew. “Everyone was trying to make a difference,” she adds.
