Ghaati marks the return of superstar Anushka Shetty to the big screen after a long gap. She was last seen in Naveen Polishetty's Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty, which was a huge success at the box office. Ghaati has been directed by Krish Jagarlamudi and is an action drama revolving around a drug peddler played by Anushka Shetty.

Ghaati falters at the box office

The project was in the making for two years, but failed to generate hype, as Anushka did not promote it. The film opened with very low occupancy, and dull bookings led to poor numbers at the box office. Ghaati collected only ₹2 crore worldwide on day 1 and dropped further to ₹1.4 crore on day 2, as per the tracking portal Sachnilk.

With total collections hovering around ₹3.5 crore, the film has turned into a massive disaster considering Anushka’s stardom. Interestingly, another release, Little Hearts, featuring newcomers, performed far better. Its day 2 collections even surpassed Ghaati. Starring Mouli of #90s fame, the film has been widely appreciated.

Meanwhile, Amazon Prime Video has acquired the digital rights to Ghaati, and reports suggest it will premiere on OTT within a month. While Krish Jagarlamudi is known for intense dramas, Ghaati lacked emotional depth, leading to poor reviews and negative word of mouth.

This is the first time that Anushka Shetty’s film has opened to such poor reviews and occupancy, shocking one and all in the trade. Her performance stands out, but the miscasting of Vikram Prabhu worked against the film. For now, Ghaati is a box office disaster. Stay tuned for more updates.
