Ghaati is one of the most-awaited films in recent times as it marks Anushka Shetty’s return to the big screen after a gap of two years. Things are extra special because maverick director Krish Jagarlamudi has made the film on a massive scale. For the first time, Anushka Shetty will be seen in such an action-packed role, and she is excited to see how the audience receives her in this new avatar.

Ghaati launched amidst a lot of controversy

Going back in time, Krish started this project after he walked out of Pawan Kalyan’s Hari Hara Veera Mallu. The period drama, which began in 2019, kept facing issues and scheduling conflicts due to Pawan Kalyan’s political career, causing repeated delays. Upset and left with no choice, Krish exited the project and immediately took Ghaati onto the floors.

This move surprised many, but Krish needed a comeback, especially since his last film, Kondapolam, ended as a massive disaster at the box office. That’s how Ghaati began, and Krish wrapped up the shoot in a record time of under three months.

The release, however, faced delays. Not many know that Ghaati was postponed twice. Initially set for an April 2025 release, the film was pushed back due to VFX issues. A source close to the unit reveals to us that the VFX work related to Anushka Shetty’s look took longer than expected. In fact, one final version was even rejected by Anushka herself as she was unhappy with the output. All this caused major delays, but now Ghaati is all set to hit the screens on September 5, 2025.

Amazon Prime Video has grabbed the digital rights for a fancy price and will stream the film in the first week of October 2025. Thanks to this deal, the makers have already recovered half of the film’s budget, making it the highest OTT deal in Anushka Shetty’s career. Ghaati has received a U/A from the censors and has two hours and thirty-seven minutes of runtime.

Ghaati revolves around a drug-peddling clan operating on the Andhra–Odisha border. Anushka Shetty and Vikram Prabhu play the lead roles, while Chaitanya Rao of Maya Sabha fame appears as one of the main villains. Jagapati Babu will be seen as a CBI officer, and Vidyasagar has composed the music.

The film features six to seven high-octane action sequences executed in style. The story follows Anushka’s character, who leads the clan but later seeks redemption after landing in deep trouble. Ghaati has been backed by Krish himself, who is under pressure after the chaos surrounding Hari Hara Veera Mallu. Many blame him for that project’s failure after his exit.

Krish is also being questioned repeatedly about why he walked out of the Pawan Kalyan film in all his interviews, but he has handled it with composure and has shifted focus entirely to promoting Ghaati. The action drama is getting a wide release since no other major Telugu film is arriving that week, except Sivakarthikeyan’s Madharaasi and a small film, Little Hearts.
