Dulquer Salmaan’s much-awaited King of Kotha is already promising to be one for the ages. The movie, which will be helmed by veteran filmmaker Joshiy’s son Abhilash, has Dulquer in the lead and an ensemble star cast that also includes Gokul Suresh. The collaboration of Dulquer and Gokul has already got fans on Twitter excited about the film, with many sharing snaps of their fathers – Mammootty and Suresh Gopi – together and reminiscing about their movies.

Mammootty and Suresh Gopi have been part of several superhits that were helmed by Joshiy – including New Delhi, Dhruvam and Twenty-20. The duo’s previous movie together was The King and The Commissioner, which was directed by Shaji Kailas.

King of Kotha, which is also produced by Dulquer’s Wayfarer Films, went on floors after more than a year of its initial announcement. The movie, which has Aishwarya Lekshmi playing the female lead, belongs to the gangster genre and has Dulquer flaunting a new look with long hair.

Scripted by Porinju Mariyam Jose writer Abhilash N Chandran, the movie also has Sudhi Koppa and Chemban Vinod Jose in pivotal roles. The writer had previously told us that the antagonist of the movie too has equal space to perform.

In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Abhilash Joshiy had said, “It’s a gangster movie based on the events that happen in a town called Kotha. It’s not a typical ‘mass’ film; it has equal importance to emotions, romance and songs as much as action.” The filmmaker clarified that it will have enough elements to appeal to both the family as well as the youth audience.

Dulquer is fresh off the success of two back-to-back superhits in Tamil and Hindi with Sita Ramam and Chup. His last Malayalam theatrical release Kurup too went on to do business of over Rs 100 crore worldwide.
