Gold: Alphonse Puthren apologises for delay in release of Prithviraj, Nayanthara-starrer, calls film ‘imperfect’

Gold will mark the Premam director’s first film in over seven years

Director Alphonse Puthren’s much-awaited Gold is finally gearing up to hit theatres, after multiple delays, announcements and reshoots. The filmmaker took to his social networking page on the eve of the Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara-starrer’s release to apologise for making people wait so long.

In a quintessential Alphonse post, the filmmaker wrote, “Just like Neram and Premam, Gold is also imperfect… that’s why mostly there’s a chance of you all liking it.” The director also requested peope to watch the movie if they are free and to send him feedback if they like it or not.

“The story will begin from the first scene. I am not going to mess it up by saying more. Sorry for the delay from my side,” he concluded, adding that he is waiting for the audience to get back to him after watching the movie.

Gold marks Alphonse’s first directorial in over seven years. His previous movie Premam, which had Nivin Pauly, Sai Pallavi, Anupama Parameshwaran and Madonna Sebastian, was a blockbuster. While the filmmaker had plans to remake Shutter in Bollywood and also a couple of other projects including Paattu with Fahadh Faasil and Nayanthara in the subsequent years, none of them materialized until Gold.

The film is co-produced by Prithviraj Productions and Magic Frames. The team are having a great run in 2022 with movies such as Jana Gana Mana and Kaduva. Gold has a stellar supporting cast featuring Roshan Mathew, Chemban Vinod Jose, Deepti Sati, Lalu Alex, Saiju Kurup, Shanti Krishna and cameos from other stars.

Gold, which was initially scheduled to hit theatres in September 2022, is set to release in over 1,300 theatres worldwide with the first day seeing 6,000+ shows. The film has already done pre-release business worth Rs 50 Cr, according to sources from the production team, and is expected to be the highest-grossing Prithviraj film if the feedback is positive.
