Gupt turns 25: Bobby Deol reveals he filmed a song in Rajiv Rai directorial with a broken leg

Gupt: The Hidden Truth seems to be quite a memorable film in Bobby Deol’s career. One of the actor’s first films in the star’s career, Gupt is still considered one of the best thrillers in Hindi cinema with its well written story, and unforgettable twist, and its catchy music. Deol recently revealed that he had filmed one of the songs from the film’s soundtrack with a broken leg.

In conversation with Hindustan Times, Deol said that he had started filming for Gupt immediately after working on his debut film Barsaat. The actor had broken his leg while shooting for the latter on its last day. While working on Gupt’s song Duniya Hasino Ka Mela, Deol’s injury was incorporated into the choreography as his hand movements, which came to be known as ‘Bobby Deol’s style’.

The actor opened up about a hilarious part of filming the song. The studio where the song was filmed had not been air conditioned and by the time Deol finished his rehearsals, he would be ‘drenched’ in sweat. His clothes would be riddled with white patches because of it and he recalls how he went through about 8-9 pairs of black jeans for filming that one song.

Deol spoke of a unique promotional strategy director Rajiv Rai had for promoting the film. The filmmaker had booked an entire music channel for a day to make sure that only Gupt’s songs would play on it, without any other commercials. “It was amazing how he promoted the film, because it had so much material ”, said Deol.

The 1997 film also starred Manisha Koirala, Kajol and Om Puri in pivotal roles. Gupt: The Hidden Truth can be streamed on Vi Movies and TV.

Interestingly, Gupt’s director Rai recently announced that he would be making his comeback to Bollywood after a gap of almost 18 years.
