The latest Malayalam movie to face censoring issues is Shane Nigam's musical romantic film, Haal. To resolve this matter, the filmmakers had turned to the Kerala High Court. The HC has now made the decision to watch the film before making a decision.

It has been stated that Justice V G Arun would see the film on October 25 at approximately 7 pm, ahead of the proceedings. This ruling follows the Central Board of Film Certification's (CBFC) proposal to provide the film an "A" rating for theatrical release. The latest guidelines from the Censor Board have caused the film's theatrical release to be continually postponed, much to the chagrin of the filmmakers.
They have given the filmmakers instructions to refrain from using words like "rakhi," "beef biryani," "dwajapranamam" and the usage of burqa to hide identity in Haal. Nevertheless, Haal's director, Veeraa, has sought the Kerala High Court's intervention. According to the Censor Board, the movie portrays an adverse impression of Kerala state officials and the police. They have also asked makers to alter scenes in which bias against specific religious groups is portrayed.

When the musical love drama was finished early last year, it was expected to hit theatres by October. However, it was delayed for unknown reasons. Haal's big-screen debut, which was originally planned for September, was postponed once more. Shane's sports drama, Balti, was released in Tamil and Malayalam on September 26.
In the recent Suresh Gopi-starrer Janaki V v/s State of Kerala, directed by Pravin Narayanan, the Censor Board proposed renaming the film from Janaki to Janaki V since the protagonist, a survivor of sexual assault, "could not be titled after a Hindu goddess." The film's release was postponed by more than a month as a result. Pravin and a number of other Malayalam filmmakers strongly objected to this. The courtroom drama is presently available for viewing on ZEE5 and OTTplay Premium.
