Has Rohit Padaki’s Uttarakaanda been shelved after Ekka’s lacklustre theatrical outing?
Shivarajkumar's first look from Uttarakaanda revealed

A little over a year ago, there was a rumour that the Dhananjaya and Shivarajkumar led Uttarakaanda had been shelved, after about 30% of the first instalment had been shot. The film is said to be a two-part venture. Back then, the makers had vehemently denied this, claiming that the film had been paused owing to Shivarajkumar’s cancer battle, surgery and subsequent recuperation. The shoot of Uttarakaanda would resume once the Century Star’s health allows him to resume action-packed sequences, they’d claimed.

Renewed buzz that Uttarakaanda's been shelved

In the interim, the team, director Rohit Padaki and the production house, moved on to another project, Ekka, with Yuva Rajkumar. During the promotions of Ekka in July, Rohit was asked about Uttarakaanda and he’d stated that once they were done with the release formalities, they’d sit with Shivarajkumar to discuss schedules.

Well, it’s been 4 months since Ekka released and Shivarajkumar has been back in action since March this year. While it was initially said that he was prioritising films that weren’t too physically taxing for him, over time he’s gone back to his earlier routine. In fact, the Century star is juggling multiple projects, like Dad, 666 Operation Dream Theatre, Bail, Peddi and Jailer 2, among others, but there’s been no word about Uttarakaanda. In fact, in 666 Operation Dream Theatre, he is working with Uttarakaanda co-star Dhananjaya.

The Uttarakaanda makers are currently busy with the launch film of Kiccha Sudeep’s nephew Sanchith Sanjeev, Mango Pachcha, all of which has led to renewed speculation that Uttarakaanda is unlikely to resume. Even more so since Ekka was, reportedly, a box office failure. A source close to the Century Star claims that Uttarakaanda had been halted even before the actor took a break for his treatment and they remain unaware of its current status.

Uttarakaanda was a film that was launched amid much fanfare as the comeback vehicle of actress Ramya. She had attended the muhurtha and done a voice-over in north Karnataka dialect for the title teaser, which was subjected to trolling. Subsequently, though, the actress excused herself from the project and Aishwarya Rajesh was cast in her place. The film was said to have a massive ensemble cast, scheduling of which was also said to be one of the reasons for the delay. So, has Uttarakaanda been shelved? Or will the north Karnataka gangster tale see the light of day after all? We’ll have to wait and see.
