Mid-Day reported that Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is confirmed to be coming up with a season 2. Vibhu Puri, one of the show’s writers, informed the portal that work on the new instalment has begun.
“We are currently in the writing stage, exploring the characters and [their] storylines. “People had doubted whether the show would work with the current generation and if they would understand it, but they embraced the world of Heeramandi,” Puri shared. Puri also shared that the cast should be able to begin filming very soon. The new season is said to focus on their displacement, as they move into the Hindi and Bengali film industries.
Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is a period drama set in Lahore's red-light district during the Indian independence movement. It follows a power struggle between the reigning courtesan Mallikajaan and her nemesis's daughter, Fareedan.
This story weaves this rivalry with the courtesans' personal struggles for love, freedom, and survival, set against the backdrop of political unrest under British rule. The series features an ensemble cast including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Sharmin Segal.
The series explores themes such as power, matriarchy, freedom, independence, love, betrayal, identity, sacrifice, and the role of art and culture within the Tawaif tradition, which is visually set against a sumptuous backdrop.
