Andhagan is the Tamil remake of the hit Hindi black comedy Andhadhun (2018), directed by Sriram Ragavan. The Hindi version stars Tabu, Ayushmann Khurrana, Radhika Apte and the plot revolves around a blind pianist who gets unwillingly embroiled in a murder. The film was bankrolled by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Matchbox Pictures.

Andhagan features an ensemble cast comprising Prashanth, Simran, Karthik, Priya Anand, Samuthirakani, Yogi Babu, KS Ravikumar,Urvashi, Leela Samson, Vanitha Vijayakumar, Manobala, Poovaiyar, Lakshmi Pradeep and SK Gopi. The film is considered a comeback of sorts for the '90s leading star Prashanth. While Mohan Raja was initially supposed to direct the film, later JJ Frederick took over. After his exit, director Thiagarajan himself took over.

Music for the film is by Santhosh Narayanan, cinematography is by Ravi Yadav and editing is by Sathish Surya. Thiagarajan had said that since Prashanth was a trained pianist, it was easy for him to fit into the role.

Simran and Prashanth had earlier teamed up for Kannethirey Thondrinaal, Jodi, Parthen Rasithen and Thamizh. This is their fifth collaboration together. The shoot had initially got delayed due to the pandemic, but they eventually managed to wrap it by last year-end. However, there has been no announcement about the film's release date yet and fans are eagerly awaiting the same.
