HBO Max is bringing back the stories of Westeros with two prequels the same year. While one will be highlight 200 years, another 90 years before that incidents of Game of Thrones.

Westeros is returning with two grand size prequels of Game of Thrones (2011-2019) promising to earn massive viewerships for HBO Max next year. While House of the Dragon has been renewed for Season 3, a new show titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms haa been made for 2026. These shows will be telling a different story from GOT, following George R.R. Martin's novellas. The third installment went on floors in March and finally wrapped up filming this October 2025. This means, House of the Dragon Season 3 will be released far later in mid-2026. House of the Dragon Season 3 promises to escalate the civil war of Dance of the Dragons with major battles, strategic shifts, and tragic character deaths. For the unversed, House of the Dragon are set approximate 200 years prior to GOT, chronicling the Targaryen civil war, the Dance of the Dragons, which began around 129 AC. Meanwhile, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set around 90 years prior to GOT, making it about a century before the main events. The story is based on the Martin's Dunk and Egg novellas that took place in the year 209 AC.
Instead of showcasing the typical battles and bloodshed, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms promises a character driven show that's centered on gritty, medieval knights and honour, with a smaller scale and a lighter tone than its predecessors. The show is expected to feature a young Targaryen dynasty still ruling the Iron Throne fifty years after the last dragon's death.
