Idli Kadai star Dhanush clarifies on how he struggled to buy idlies when his father is a filmmaker

Dhanush, who is working on promoting hai next film Idli Kadai, is touring across Tamil Nadu. The actor is also helming the film, and it is his fourth directorial. In a recent pre-release event held, Dhanush clarified his earlier comments on how his childhood was in poverty, after many began to point out he is a director’s son.

Dhanush talks about his past with poverty

In one of the pre-release events of Idli Kadai, Dhanush had recalled how during his childhood, he had struggled to even buy idlies and would be denied money from his family when he asked. Following this, many criticised the actor on milking the middle class and poverty status to sell his story, given his father Kasthuri Raja was a filmmaker.

But at an event held recently, Dhanush clarified the statement. “I was born in 1983, and my father had become director only

In 1991. So, in those eight years, we struggled. Even when he became a director, we were four children and it was still hard. Only by 1994-1995, things were getting better,” he said.

Dhanush further said that his family operated within budget and him along with his three other siblings understood the financial situation. “Hence we asked for money to eat out, we wouldn’t get. So we did odd jobs and earned some money.”

Idli Kadai is set to release in theatres on October 1. The film is touted to be a feel-good drama and also stars Rajkiran, Nithya Menen, Arun Vijay, Sathyaraj, Shalini Pandey, Parthiban, Samuthirakani and others.

Idli Kadai has music by GV Prakash, and reportedly, the post-theatrical streaming rights have been bagged by Netflix for a fancy price. The plot of Idli Kadai is expected to revolve around the protagonist’s homecoming to resurrect the small idli eatery of his father, after having achieved much more. However, he must face a rich opponent to do so.
