January 1, 2026, is the final release date of Sriram Raghavan's biographical war drama Ikkis in cinemas. The film will make the jump to digital streaming on Amazon Prime Video when its theatrical run concludes. The film will be available for rent on Prime Video beginning March 12, 2026, in line with the industry-standard eight-week theatrical window, and will be available to all the platform subscribers on March 26, 2026.

Experience the evolution of Sriram Raghavan’s suspenseful storytelling by streaming his gritty revenge masterpiece Badlapur alongside his early directorial gems in the Star Bestsellers anthology, both available now on OTTplay Premium.

Strategic postponement

Originally set for a late December 2025 release for Ikkis the makers decided to postpone it until New Year's Day instead of during a packed weekend at the movies, when major blockbusters like Dhurandhar and Avatar: Fire and Ash were also playing. This change, according to producer Dinesh Vijan, was deliberate to give the film more "breathing space" and a solitary theatrical window to reach its full financial potential.

Part of the inspiration for Ikkis came from the life of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, who became the youngest person to ever receive the Param Vir Chakra, the highest military honour in India. The heroic actions of Khetarpal at the 1971 Indo-Pak War Battle of Basantar are the main subject of the story. According to reports, Khetarpal, at just 21 years old, destroyed ten Pakistani tanks while leading his tank, "Famagusta," against superior enemy troops. He then tragically sacrificed his life in the process. The film's stated goal is to document his time spent training at the NDA and IMA before his last stand in the Shakargarh Sector.
