Indrajith Sukumaran took up Dheeram at a time when he’d decided to stay away from cop roles for a while. So, what was it about the film that made him change his mind?

He’s done dime-a-dozen cop roles in his film career so far, so much so that actor Indrajith Sukumaran was actively avoiding a return to the khaki uniform. And yet, when the script of Dheeram came to him, he decided to put this self-imposed ban aside and took it up. “I have done a lot of police characters, but this one genuinely excited me. What makes each film unique is its story and narrative and, in that sense, Dheeram takes a road less travelled and presents an investigative thriller in a never-before-seen format. It travels down a new path in the course of the investigation,” reasons Indrajith, talking to Mathrubhumi News.

The actor adds that as investigative thrillers go, Dheeram too follows a template – a series of murders and an investigation that proceeds parallelly. “What makes Dheeram different is its presentation. The investigation process has a fresh feel to it, like, for instance, the procedure followed at each crime spot has not been attempted before. The visualisation is very different,” he remarks. That apart, Indrajith reckons that the backstory in the film will be unique and not have a familiar feel to it.
Most importantly, though, the USP according to Dheeram is that it has several strong female characters and tells their story. Apart from the cast that’s been officially announced, there are surprise characters as well, says Indrajith. “I am not sure if there’s been another investigative thriller with these many strong female characters, who are not only in the backstory, but are also very much a part of the present timeline in the film,” he says.
According to the official synopsis of the Jithin Suresh directorial, Dheeram follows a series of mysterious murders in Calicut that reveal a chilling pattern. Encounter specialist ACP Stalin Joseph (Indrajith) uncovers a vengeful psycho killers deadly plan. As he pieces together the twisted truth, Stalin must make a harrowing choice to become both judge and executioner in his pursuit of justice for a grieving parent. The film also stars Nishanth Sagar, Aju Varghese, Divya Pillai, Reba Monica John, Sagar Surya, among others.
