IT: Welcome to Derry episode 1 recap

So, in episode 1 of IT: Welcome to Derry we saw Matty (Miles Ekhardt) sneaking into a theatre to watch a musical (The Music Man – notably the song “Ya Got Trouble” is heard many times). Matty was chased by an usher for sneaking into the theatre without a ticket. Later, he was offered a lift, but the trip turned out to be terrible: the mother went into labour in the car, giving birth to a strange winged demon-baby; Matty's pacifier was thrown out the window as the car crossed a bridge.

Following this, Matty's friends Lilly (Clara Stack), Phil (Jack Molloy Legault), and Teddy (Mikkal Karim Fidler) were seen searching for him as they faced some voices, hinting that Matty was alive. Their investigation, helped by Ronnie, led them to the same theatre where they watched the same movie Matty was watching. While they were watching it, Matty was seen inside the movie, holding a baby — it became clear it was the demon baby. When his friends were asking Matty to come out of the movie, he blamed them that he was in this situation because of them, and after that, he threw the demon baby towards them, which ripped apart Teddy, Phil, and Teddy's sister Susie, while Lilly saved herself.

What to expect from IT: Welcome to Derry episode 2?

Episode 1 ended with a tragic massacre in the theatre: several children were killed, and only Lily and Ronnie survived. While the other characters were killed even before they were introduced properly, fans speculate that they can be revived again to add more thrill to the plot. On the other hand, their search for Matty's truth is expected to continue.

Since Episode 1 establishes the threat, Episode 2 could show more direct manifestations of Pennywise's powers, or at least more obvious supernatural phenomena (visions, drain/pipe voices, etc.). The show may provide hints of Pennywise’s origin or connection to Derry’s history, especially through the “interludes” concept from the original novel of Stephen King. Given the Halloween early release date, the second episode is perhaps designed to heighten the horror and set the tone for the rest of the season. The show features Bill Skarsgård reprising his role as Pennywise from the films.
