Roopesh Shetty directed and acted in the Tulu-Kannada film Jai
Bigg Boss Kannada Season 9 winner Roopesh Shetty’s film Jai, which was his latest directorial venture, was a Tulu-Kannada bilingual that released on November 14, 2025. The Tulu version, of course, fared a lot better than the Kannada one at the box office. It also marked the Tulu film debut of Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty, who hails from the coastal belt. The film’s satellite and digital rights had not been sold pre-release, even though Roopesh’s track record as a Tulu director has been good, with hit films like Girgit and Circus.

On January 28, Roopesh took to social media to announce that he has sold the satellite and digital rights and while he did not specify an amount, he posted that he it was the highest deal ever for a Tulu film. The deal is for the Tulu and Kannada versions of the film, as well as the dubbing rights. Roopesh did not specify the network, but according to a source, Zee has picked up the rights, so Jai should be available to stream on Zee5 shortly.
Although released in Kannada too, Jai was a film set in the heart of the coastal Karnataka that resonated with Tulu audiences. The film followed Roopesh’s character Jai, the right-hand man of the local MLA Vishwanath, who nods in agreement to everything the latter says, even though, the politician routinely fails to do anything worthwhile for his constituency. From crumbling infrastructure to dilapidated healthcare facilities – nothing runs well, which, Jai remains blissfully unperturbed by, until his own family is affected and there’s nothing he can do.
