Malayalam director Vipin Das’ third movie Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey has finally dropped on a streaming platform on December 22. The movie, starring Minnal Murali director Basil Joseph and C U Soon and Hridayam fame Darshana Rajendran, had a fruitful run in theatres for two months, before it got its OTT release.

The comedy entertainer, which is among the highest-grossing Malayalam films this year, released in theatres in October to largely positive reviews, for its hilarious take on rather relevant and serious subject.

The movie revolves around its female protagonist Jayabharathi, essayed by Darshana. Since her birth, every decision in her life has been taken by the men around her. Things don’t change even after her wedding to a poultry farm owner Rajesh, who is a chauvinist and resorts to domestic violence when his wife raises her voice. Jaya’s cries for help go unheeded, even by her near and dear ones who urge her to adjust. This prompts her to ‘kick’ out of the situation. What ramifications will that have on her life and her relationship with Rajesh?

The Malayalam movie began streaming on Disney+ Hotstar, which has also dropped the Tamil, Telugu and Hindi versions. Apart from Basil and Darshana, the movie also has Aju Varghese, Sudheer Paravoor, Manju Pillai and Azees Nedumangad in pivotal roles.

In an earlier interview, the film’s director Vipin had told us that he had initially written a much more serious version of the script, but decided to take the lighter route after several films, including The Great Indian Kitchen, addressing the topic of how women are not treated equally in the society had come out during the pandemic.

The movie grossed over Rs 45 crore in worldwide box office, emerging as the 6th highest grosser in Malayalam after Bheeshma Parvam, Hridayam, Jana Gana Mana, Thallumaala and Kaduva.
