Telugu superstar Jr NTR achieved a new milestone in his career by joining the elite group of international actors. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Wednesday announced a list of new members, with Jr NTR being the sole Indian actor on it.
"The Academy is thrilled to welcome Ke Huy Quan, Marsha Stephanie Blake, Kerry Condon, N.T. Rama Rao Jr. and Rosa Salazar to the Actors Branch," said the Academy in a statement.

What is the purpose of Oscar's actor branch?
For the untainted, the Academy's membership is divided into several branches, each representing a different aspect of the film industry, such as actors, directors, writers, producers, and so on. Actors are one of the branches, and they have their own specific categories for voting and awards, such as Best Actor and Best Actress during the annual Oscars ceremony.
What's the significance of Jr NTR joining the Academy?
Tarak is the latest to join the growing list of Indian talents in the Academy. Superstars like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Anil Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Tabu and composer AR Rahman are already part of the Oscars committee.

Last year, superstar Suriya became the first Tamil actor to join the Academy. And Jr NTR enjoys the distinction of being the first Telugu superstar to receive this honour.
Being part of the committee will allow the Indian talents to work with their international counterparts, grow their global reach and also provide support when the Indian talents and movies compete at the Oscars.
