The fantasy adventure film Jungle Cruise had its world premiere at the very same place the movie’s conception came into being from, Disneyland, on Saturday.

The movie is based on a popular Disneyland ride, called Jungle Cruise. The ride takes the form of a riverboat cruise down the replica versions of several rivers located in Asia, African countries and South America. The ride had been closed for renovations until recently, to do away with certain parts of it that included insensitive depictions of Indigenous people. The ride was open to all guests, including the movie’s cast, who had a go on it as well.

The premiere, one of the first large-scale Hollywood film events since the start of the pandemic, was conducted following COVID-19 guidelines, with attendees having to display proof of vaccination and a negative COVID-19 test to be able to get in. An after-party at Adventureland, a Disneyland attraction resembling an exotic jungle setting, was also open to guests.

The Jungle Cruise film follows the story of a British scientist and her brother who go to the jungle in search of the Tree of Life, which is said to have incredible healing qualities. They are guided on this expedition by a captain of a steamboat.

The movie stars Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt and Jack Whitehall among others. The film is produced by Walt Disney Pictures and is scheduled to be released this year, after being delayed previously due to the pandemic.
