Kireeti Reddy in Junior

Junior, the Kannada-Telugu bilingual launchpad of Kireeti Reddy, the son of politician-businessman Gaali Janardhan Reddy, is out on not 1 but 3 different OTT platforms as of September 30. The Telugu version can be accessed on aha Telugu and Amazon Prime Video (both via OTTplay Premium), while the Kannada version is exclusively on only one – Namma Flix. The film was supposed to have dropped a week ago, but there was a last-minute issue, when it had to be censored again, owing to a correction that was made.

Junior had released in theatres on July 18, with the Kannada version in a direct clash with Yuva Rajkumar’s Ekka. Yuva’s film had more buzz going for it, and in the bargain, Junior suffered at the box office. It did not help that the show allocation for the Kannada version was also not conducive, with Telugu getting the better share, which, showed in the box office performance also.

Why Junior was delayed

Junior was directed by Radhakrishna Reddy, of the Kannada film Mayabazar 2016 fame. It was launched amid much fanfare in Bengaluru in 2022 as a Kannada-Telugu bilingual, and shortly after, a teaser showing Kireeti’s gymnastic agility came out. But then, there was radio silence for the longest, and it was thought that the film had, perhaps, been shelved. It resurfaced in 2025, and Kireeti had said that the delay was because he was out of action for almost a year, having sustained an undisclosed injury on the set of the film.

The actor is said to have done all the stunt and the parkour sequences, without a body double. The delay in the making is noticeable occasionally in the film, with Kireeti looking visibly different in several sequences. Sreeleela was also not a part of the second half of the film, appearing only in the Viral Vayyari number and stating in one of the very few promotional interviews that she did, that her role was not challenging and “was just there”.

Films featuring politician's sons

The assumption is that by the time the team reconvened to get the film back on track, Sreeleela was too busy with multiple projects in Telugu and more expensive too, which is why her character was all but written out of the script. Junior had music by Devi Sri Prasad and included the likes of V Ravichandran, Genelia Deshmukh, Achyuth Kumar, Sudharani, Kiran Srinivas, Rao Ramesh, Satya, Harsha Chemudu, Kuri Pratap, among others, on the cast.
