Kaantha, the Tamil period drama, which is currently running in theatres, stars Dulquer Salmaan and Bhagyashri Borse in the lead roles. The film is set in the 1950s Madras, and revolves around a star actor and his egoistic clash with director who had introduced him. While it is no surprise that Dulquer, who had already aced the period films, have praises showering on him, fans were quite surprised with Bhagyashri Borse who makes her Tamil debut with Kaantha.

Kaantha: Bhagyashri Borse comes off as surprise

Kaantha, the recently released Tamil film, is Dulquer Salmaan’s latest period flick. After delivering stellar performances in films like Mahanati, Sita Ramam, and Lucky Baskhar, Dulquer takes up playing the man from bygone era. In Kaantha, Dulquer Salmaan plays the role of TK Mahadevan, a popular actor who is collaborating with the director Ayya who introduced him. While his role was widely appreciated by fans, what came off as a surprise is Kaantha’s female lead, Bhagyashri Borse’s performance.

In the film, Bhagyashri Borse plays Kumari, a debutante who is the heroine of the film which being shot. Her performance in the film has indeed managed to impress fans, given Bhagyashri’s previous film in Telugu, Mr Bachchan, had not used her anymore than just an eye candy, whereas her role in Kingdom too was not much talked about. Whereas in Kaantha, Bhagyashri was able to showcase her acting range and performative side. Netizens were quick to point out this.

Kaantha, which is currently running in theatres, will take its time of at least four weeks before debuting on OTT. The film has made Rs 4 crore on the opening day. Kaantha’s post-theatrical rights are bagged by Netflix. Directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, Kaantha is not a biopic of MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, as it was widely speculated to be. The film, produced by Dulquer and Rana Daggubati, also stars Samuthirakani, Gayathrie, Ravindra Vijay and others in supporting roles.
