Mammootty and The Great Indian Kitchen filmmaker Jeo Baby officially announced the title of their first project together on Tuesday with a first-look poster featuring the megastar’s photo from the early 90s.

Titled Kaathal, the movie also marks Tamil star Jyotika’s comeback Malayalam venture, 12 years after Seetha Kalyanam. The film will be produced by Mammootty’s own banner Mammootty Kampany and distributed by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films. The companies had also backed Mammootty’s latest superhit Rorschach.

Apart from the two leads featured in the poster, the movie will also have Lalu Alex, Muthumani, Chinnu Chandini, Sudhi Kozhikode, Anagha Akku and Adarsh Sukumaran. The film is scripted by Adarsh and Paulson Skaria, and has Salu K Thomas as its cinematographer.

In an earlier interview with OTTPlay, Jeo, whose latest movie was Sree Dhanya Catering Service, had said that the film is a family drama. The movie is expected to go on floors next month. Mammootty recently completed the pending schedule of his Telugu actioner Agent, which is directed by Surender Reddy and has Akhil Akkineni in the lead.

Kaathal is also Jeo’s first film with a superstar in the lead. The award-winning filmmaker, who had earlier helmed movies such as Kilometers and Kilometers and spearheaded the Sony LIV anthology titled Freedom Fight, had said that he feels it’s a huge responsibility to do a movie with Mammootty.

The actor and the writers had approached the actor as soon as they had the story in mind. Right after the narration, Mammootty had greenlit the project and asked them to make a few changes in the script, which they did.

Meanwhile, Jyotika was last seen in Udanpirappe, which she had also co-produced. The actress had previously worked in Priyadarshan’s Raakkilipattu and TK Rajeevkumar’s Seetha Kalyanam in Malayalam.
