In the last couple of weeks, pretty much everything on social media about Kabzaa has been about the lack of buzz around the film, which will be in theatres on March 17, and how the teaser and songs have not really helped the cause. The trailer was the last hope and netizens had been praying that producer-director R Chandru cuts a kick-ass one, which would not only boosts the film’s prospects, but also shut up naysayers. That moment is finally here – moments ago, Chandru released the Kabzaa trailer and he got none other than Amitabh Bachchan to do the honours. This, though, meant that the team was not able to stick to their plan of having the teaser out at 5.02 pm sharp. The Hindi version eventually came closer to 8 pm, with Amitabh Bachchan tweeting the launch for a production by his close friend, Anand Pandit. Well, Anand’s involvement as producer is a contentious issue, given that he came in to the picture only after the film was completed. At the time of publication, the original Kannada trailer was not out yet. The trailer is, without doubt, spectacular, and silences Chandru’s naysayers.

The trailer was supposed to be launched at a star-studded event in Mumbai a couple of days ago, but Chandru changed those plans, after there was widespread backlash about him allegedly ignoring his homeground, Karnataka, what with all the major events so far, held outside of the state, including two song launches. In fact, sources tell us that pre-release events are also being planned in Hyderabad and Chennai, with Bengaluru the last, on March 15. With less than two weeks to go for the release, Chandru is yet to kickstart promotional interviews with the cast with the local media.

Kabzaa, which has Upendra in the lead, also stars Kiccha Sudeep, Shivarajkumar, Shriya Saran, Nawab Shah, Murali Sharma, Anoop Revanna, Posani Murali Krishna, Kabir Duhan Singh, Avinash, Pramod Shetty, Sudha, Danish Akthar Saifi, Dev Gill, among others. Produced by Chandru’s Sri Siddeshwara Creations, along with Alankar Pandian’s Invenio Origin, the film is being presented by MTB Nagaraj in Karnataka and by Anand Pandit in north India. The makers have Lyca Productions and Red Giants on board for the Tamil Nadu distribution. The digital rights of the Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam versions have been sold to Amazon Prime Video, with Hindi also expected to head to the streamer.
