The recently released Mammootty-starrer Kannur Squad directed by Roby Varghese Raj, has been garnering a lot of attention for its authentic depiction of a group of police officers on a mission to nab criminals. The plot follows a team of four cops, as they travel through different states to investigate a criminal case. Recently, the film’s screenwriter Rony David Raj, who also plays a police officer in the film, shared some details about the casting process.

‘Some actors had to back out due to unavailability of dates’

In an interview with Club FM Rony stressed the importance of choosing the right actors, particularly for the role of a police officer, as they are crucial in taking the story forward. “My friend Jinu was initially considered for the role of Jose (played by Azeez Nedumangad). But Jinu had some date issues. So, eventually the role went to Azeez. We decided on him, although we had some more options,” Rony elaborated.

He further said that Lukman Avaran and Arjun Ashokan were initially considered for the role of the police officers, but they had to back out due to conflicting schedules. Additionally, actors Prakash Raj and Sathyaraj were approached to play certain characters in the film. But unfortunately, things didn’t work out. Rony also revealed that Shabeer Kallarakkal was considered for a negative role in the film, but it didn’t materialise due to his busy schedule for King of Kotha.
