Kantara box office collection: Rishab Shetty's film is now the BIGGEST 'non-KGF' hit in the industry
Can Kantara overtake K.G.F: Chapter 1?

2022 has undoubtedly been a watershed period for Kannada Cinema and Rishab Shetty's Kantara is a shining example in this regard. The film, at the moment, is nothing less than a rage across the country and has only been growing in stature over the past 19 days or so. And in the same vein, Kantara is also stamping its authority on the office by breaching old records and setting new ones without any stutters.

By virtue of this excellent run, Kantara has now become the biggest 'non-KGF' hit in the history of Kannada cinema and as the latest trade reports reveal, the film is in no mood to stop yet. The Rishab Shetty starrer is now only a shy away from the Rs. 150 crore mark at the global box office and now currently stands as the third highest-grossing Kannada film of all time, beating 777 Charlie in its pursuits. The Rakshit Shetty film, which opened in cinema halls across the world on July 10 earlier this year, has grossed close to Rs. 103 crores during its theatrical run.

Kantara, as of today, only has the two KGF films to reckon with and many trade analysts have stated that the film's ongoing performance at the performance can surely take it last K.G.F: Chapter 1. The first installment of the mega Rocky Bhai franchise concluded its theatrical reign with Rs. 238 crores (reportedly) and with Kantara outperforming itself on a daily basis, the aforementioned figure is within its grasp. While K.G.F: Chapter 2's numbers remain unattainable, a few trade reports have suggested that Rishab Shetty's action-adventure is highly capable of grossing over Rs. 300 crores.

Kantara remained unchallenged at the Kannada box office during the first three weeks of its theatrical run but one can expect the upcoming gangster saga Head Bush to offer some competition post its release on October 21.

Interestingly, four of the top 5 grossers in Kannada cinema history have released in 2022 with KGF 1 being the only exception (released in 2018). Having encountered a long lull at the box office previously, the year took a positive turn with the release of Puneeth Rajkumar's James and gradually readied itself for bigger and newer improvements. The stage then seemed set perfectly for the upcoming releases and with K.G.F: Chapter 2 trigger starting a whole new phenomenon, it soon became apparent that a cultural shift was around the corner. The industry was also able to contribute to the pan-India trend with films like 777 Charlie and Vikrant Rona; the five biggest Kannada hits to date are K.G.F: Chapter 2, K.G.F: Chapter 1, Kantara, 777 Charlie and Vikrant Rona.
