Kantara Box Office: Rishab Shetty's film is the latest to join the mighty ₹400 crore club

The highest-grossing film in the Kannada language, Kantara, is in no mood to stop!

Just as promised, Rishab Shetty's Kantara has achieved yet another super impressive target at the box office. The Kannada film, which was eventually released as a bona fide pan-India film following a superb audience response, crossed the whopping Rs. 400 crore mark at the global box office on Tuesday, November 22, to become only the second Kannada film in history to do so.

The domestic box office collections of Kantara have already gone past Rs. 350 crores in terms of gross numbers with overseas earnings amounting to Rs. 44 crores. The Hombale Films production has been running in cinema halls across the world for more than 50 days now and despite the stiff competition along the way, there have been very few blips in reaching the glorious target of Rs. 400 crores. Kantara has also completed 50 days of theatrical run in the U.S.A, Canada, the UAE, and Australia. The film is said to have crossed more than $3 million in the USA alone.

Reportedly made on a budget of only Rs. 16 crores, Kantara has fetched a staggering ROI (return on investment) for the makers, Hombale Films, who are currently having a ball of a time at the box office. 2022 alone saw two of Hombale's ventures turn out to be massive global phenomenons in the form of KGF 2 and Kantara and producer Vijay Kirangandur and Co.'s instincts to promote Kannada content with great gusto seem to have suddenly changed the landscape as far as Indian cinema is concerned. While KGF 2 grossed more than Rs. 435 crores as a Hindi dubbed version, Kantara Hindi is eyeing the Rs. 100 crore mark with the Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam versions of both films also paying yielding great dividends.

Interestingly, Kantara and KGF 2 have often been pitted against one another with the latter serving as the new benchmark at the box office for all Kannada films. Kantara, thanks to its superb run in its home state, has surpassed the collections of Prashanth Neel's magnum opus to now be hailed as the highest-grossing film in the Kannada language with close to Rs. 185 crores (gross) to its name.
