Kantara Chapter 1 actor Jayaram's next in Kannada cinema has him reunite with Shivarajkumar

Veteran actor Jayaram had debuted in Kannada cinema with 2023’s action heist thriller Ghost, which had Shivarajkumar in the lead. They are now working on their second film together

Malayalam actor Jayaram has been basking in all the praise that’s come his way following his role in Rishab Shetty’s Kantara prequel, Kantara Chapter 1. The veteran actor played king Rajashekara, who is later revealed to be one of the main antagonists, a role that has received widespread appreciation. Although Jayaram is often associated with big ticket projects like Vijay’s The G.O.A.T, Ponniyin Selvan 1 and 2, Guntur Karam, Game Changer, among many others, his roles rarely get talked about. So, when his casting in Kantara Chapter 1 was announced, audiences were not expecting anything groundbreaking from him.

When the film came out, though, all of that changed, with audiences across languages opining that after a long gap, Jayaram got a powerful role in another industry through Kantara Chapter 1. The actor has not been very prolific in Malayalam, focusing on other industries instead, including Kannada, where he debuted in 2023 with the action heist thriller Ghost, starring Shivarajkumar in the lead. He played the cop charged with capturing Shivarajkumar’s character; a significant role that many felt was marred by his Kannada dubbing.

Then came Kantara Chapter 1 and suddenly, the whole country is looking at him and his filmography and Malayalis have been celebrating the return of the actor they’d seen blossom in the 90s. Up next, the actor is returning to Sandalwood and reuniting with Shivarajkumar. At a recent event, Century Star Shivarajkumar revealed that he is currently working with Jayaram on one of his upcoming films. Jayaram is part of Bail, directed by Pavan Wadeyar, which is a thriller that also stars Saikumar, Dheekshith Shetty and Sanjana Anand, among others.

Back home in Malayalam, Jayaram has reunited with his son Kalidas for a film called Ashakal Aayiram, directed by G Prajith, principal photography of which was recently completed.
