A still from Kantara Chapter 1

Kantara Chapter 1 has been in theatres for two weeks and has, as per an official account, amassed a whopping Rs 717.5 cr in its worldwide gross so far. However, the week 2 collections have been on a downward spiral, with the third Thursday registering its lowest ever net total. On Day 15, Kantara Chapter 1 recorded an estimated Rs 8.85 cr net all-India total only, most of which came from the Kannada and Hindi versions. For the first time, the Telugu version dipped under the Rs 1 crore mark at Rs 0.9 cr, while Tamil held steady at Rs 1.15 cr and Malayalam at Rs 0.6 cr.

The film’s week 2 net total stood at Rs 147.85 cr (all-India), down from Week 1’s Rs 337.4 cr. It is likely to have a moderate uptick on its third weekend, given that it is the Deepavali festive long weekend, but this is subject to the performance of festival releases like Telusu Kada, Bison, Dude, Diesel, Pet Detective and Thamma, among others. Thamma, in particular, is expected to put a major dent in Kantara Chapter 1’s Hindi belt collections.
