Kantara Chapter 1 Day 21 box office: Despite films like Thamma, Dude and Bison, among others, for a weekday, Kantara Chapter 1 held strong

Day 21 at the box office continued to look promising for Kantara Chapter 1 in its Kannada original and Hindi dubbed versions. Across the rest of the south, collections fell massively, which is not surprising, given that there were Deepavali festive releases across all languages. Even though most of these films did not arrive with rousing reviews, some, like Dude and Bison, for instance, have managed to draw crowds. Despite this and that Thamma has been doing decent business in the Hindi belt, Kantara Chapter 1 wound up Day 21 with a Rs 10.6 cr net total, taking it to a cumulative Rs 557.5 cr all-India net.

During the Deepavali holiday extended weekend, a source from the makers had suggested that the film would break into the Rs 800 cr worldwide gross segment and be whiskers away from Chhaava’s Rs 809 cr total. Kantara Chapter 1 was set for this total as of Tuesday, the source said, but there was no official confirmation of the same, and as of October 23, the figure, according to the film’s PR team, stood at Rs 765 cr as it inched to the Week 3 mark. At the end of Week 2, Kantara Chapter 1 had registered a worldwide gross of Rs 717.5 cr.
The film is expected to make its way to OTT on October 30, by which time its box office will likely dwindle further. Amazon Prime Video had picked up the streaming rights, reportedly, for a whopping Rs 125 cr and stipulated a 4-week window for the south language versions. The Hindi dubbed version will arrive later, presumably at the 8-week mark.
