Kantara Chapter 1 is in the Rs 500 crore club after only a week at the worldwide box office and is the highest grossing Kannada film of 2025, with over Rs 100 cr coming from the original version. Despite these very encouraging numbers, though, Rishab Shetty’s film’s week-day collections across India have been on a steady decline. After the nearly 50% drop on the first Monday, it held on Tuesday, but has been dropping since then, with the second Thursday now the lowest total, at Rs 21 cr only, with every region contributing in single digits (cr) only.

After a week at the Indian box office, the net figures of Kantara stood at Rs 337.4 cr. The film is now the second highest grossing film from Kannada, after KGF: Chapter 2, but has failed to beat the Yash’s starrer’s week 1 record. On Day 8, the Kannada version recorded Rs 7.85 cr, Telugu 2.65 cr, Hindi 7 cr, Tamil 2 cr and Malayalam 1.65 cr.

Kantara Chapter 1 was widely seen as the film that could potentially breach the Rs 1,000 crore mark at the box office, but at the current rate, analysts reckon that it may be a difficult proposition, considering that there are multiple Deepavali releases. Also, the film has a reported 4-week only OTT window for its south language versions, so even if it has a good second week at the box office, thereafter it will likely be on a consistent decline.
