Kaushik Ganguly’s much-anticipated film Lokkhi Chele will hit the theatres in late August. Produced by Windows Production, the film will feature his son Ujaan Ganguly in the lead. During the promotion, the acclaimed director talked about possible nepotism for casting his son and the crux of the film that deals with superstitions.

“There is no question of nepotism. Ujaan waited for 22-23 years before working with me. His contemporaries, Rwitobroto (Mukherjee), and Riddhi (Sen) have worked with me already. If someone waits for so long, we cannot call it nepotism. It was Shiboprosad (Mukherjee) and Nanditadi (Roy) who suggested Ujaan’s name,” Kaushik told Anandabazar in an interview.

Ujaan debuted in Rosogolla, which was produced by Windows Production. In Lokkhi Chele, he will portray the character of Amir Hussain, who fights superstitions to enlighten society. Kaushik also stated that the film industry is a difficult field and anyone will perish if they can’t perform.

The shooting of the film was completed in 2019. However, due to the pandemic, the release of the film was pushed back. Talking about the story of the film, Kaushik told Anandabazar, “I don’t believe that a film can change society. But Lokkhi Chele is a significant film in 2022.”

Meanwhile, Kaushik will be seen as an actor in a number of films. He plays a pivotal character in Indraadip Dasgupta’s Bismillah. Meanwhile, the shooting of Rohan Sen’s Subha Bijoya is on. In the film, he will pair up with Churni Ganguly. The film also features Bony Sengupta and Kaushani Mukhopadhyay in lead.
