Kayoze Irani: 'Sarzameen changed me—even if people around me may not agree!'

The release of JioHotstar's (OTTplay Premium) next original film, Sarzameen is scheduled for July 25, 2025. The family drama stars Kajol, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Ibrahim Ali Khan, and it delves into themes of personal sacrifice, duty, and family. Also, this is Kayoze Irani's first feature film as a director.

Plotline anchored in duty and family

Dramatised against the backdrop of national duty, Sarzameen centres on Prithviraj's character, Vijay Menon, a soldier juggling parenting and military obligations. As Meher, a mother whose will is unwavering in the face of mounting emotional pressure, Kajol brings the character to life. A troubled young man grappling with issues of allegiance and self-discovery Ibrahim plays the role of Harman.

Sarzameen is set to be an emotionally rich, character-driven story produced by Dharma Productions' Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, and Apoorva Mehta.

Kayoze Irani reflects on directorial debut

In discussing his directorial debut, Irani commented on how working on Sarzameen affected him beyond any professional benchmark he had previously achieved.

According to him, the film was a watershed moment in his life. He has grown immensely as a person because of that. The actor-filmmaker believes he has grown more loving, his family is closer to him, and his emotions are more intense than before—even if others disagree!

Gratitude despite on-set challenges

Irani went on to say that he was thankful for the project despite the difficulties that arose while filming, such as bad weather and the pressures of making a directorial debut.

Even on the worst days, he was thankful to be a part of something so significant, even though there were obstacles like the weather and the stress. He knows it has altered his life, regardless of how it affects his professional life. Much of what he has shown in this film is based on his aspirations for the future, including his family and the stories he hopes to write.

Sarzameen is likely to touch many people because of its universal themes of family ties, emotional struggles, and national identity.

Multilingual OTT release

Starting July 25, 2025, the film will be streamed exclusively on JioHotstar in five languages: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
