KCC 2023: Chris Gayle powers Hoysala Eagles to victory over Shivanna’s team

After the first match of the Kannada Chalanachitra Cup, which went down to the wire, with Kiccha Sudeep’s Hoysala Eagles losing to the Ganga Warriors by only 1 run, the draw required them to play yet another match immediately. This time around, Shivarajkumar won the toss and sent the Hoysala Eagles in to field.

In their designated 10 overs, The Wodeyar Chargers got to 105 for the loss of 5 wickets. Having lost one match already, it is imperative that the Hoysala Eagles get to the required 106, else they will be out of the tournament.

During the innings break, before the Hoysala Eagles took the field to chase this target, Wodeyar Chargers skipper Shivarajkumar said that it would have been better if they had at least another 10-15 more runs on the board. 120 was the target they wanted to set, but even 105 seems a defendable score, he added, as the pitch appeared to have slowed down considerably, which will make it difficult even for the second team to keep the score board ticking

Returning to the field to chase down the total, Sudeep promoted himself to opener in this match and joined Chris Gayle. While Sudeep departed shortly thereafter, coming in at number 3, Arjun Bachchan gave Gayle good company and took the team to victory with more than three overs and nine wickets to spare. Gayle, who didn’t get into his groove into the first match, scored an unbeaten 59 of 23 balls, while Bachchan got 34 of nine only, including two back-to-back sixes off Shivarajkumar’s bowling.
