Toxic teaser offends religious sentiments?

In the immediate aftermath of the teaser, there was severe backlash against director Geetu Mohandasa, who’d hitherto been very vocal about objectification of women onscreen, among others. This, though, was largely from netizens in Kerala, who were familiar with Geetu’s stance on portrayal and treatment of women onscreen. The latest is from the National Christian Federation, which has filed a complaint against the makers with multiple bodies, alleging that the sequences in the teaser are offend religious sentiments, while the posters of the film also feature statues of angels.

Addressing this new complaint, Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce president J Jayamala, though, came in support of Yash and team Toxic. “Toxic will definitely not offend religious sentiments, because Yash is involved in it and the producer has invested hundreds of crores on the film,” she said. The complaint has been sent to the Censor Board as well and should there be offensive material in the film, appropriate action will be taken, assured Jayamala, adding that she too would push for the same.

However, she said that it is wrong on the part of the federation to demand removal of said scenes without watching the film. “. In the nearly 93 years of the Kannada film industry, there’s never been an instance of offending religious sentiments. We respect all faiths. I have not seen the film, but you can’t judge it based on the teaser,” said Jayamala, urging any organisation that has taken umbrage against the film to watch it first.
