Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the projects is one of the prestigious and most-awaited films of Tamil cinema. While it may take longer to come out, the promo has been receiving flak for its objectification of women.

When the KHxRK promo was first released, it featured Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan getting ready as they keep second guessing each other’s style decisions. Later, the duo walks towards their car in a garage filled with young women in skimpy clothes as the camera pans at them in different angles, which can be termed voyeuristic or objectified.

Some began to say that the women in the promo are AI generated and not real. Others said that while stand-in women were used, it was later changed to model-like women. However, with the recent BTS video released, it is clear that the women are nor AI generated but real who have acted in the promo, with their original appearances.

Why KHxRK promo had to objectify the women?

A section of fans has been calling out the makers for the objectification of women and question why Nelson had to resort to showing the girls in a certain way. The question cannot be neglected given the KHxRK project was not in dearth of attention of audience. In fact, the reunion of the legends had already the eyes of movie lovers and audience already in place. When the hype is real, what was the need for Nelson to have young women shown in such a way, or rather be reduced to props that are sexualised. Neither did the women have any dialogues to be uttered or contribute to the narrative of the promo, apart from gazing at the heroes who walk in slow-motion.

Are their gazes’ mere hero-elevation to the aging superstars? Or just another element to grab more eyeballs? Either ways, the promo has left audience a little less excited, even as the KHxRK promo remains to garner millions of views.
